Alcatel-Lucent has found its calling. The company is a leading global supplier of high-tech equipment for telecommunications networks. France's Alcatel acquired US rival Lucent Technologies for $11.6 billion in late 2006, forming a new organization called Alcatel-Lucent. The company provides network switching and transmission systems for wireline and wireless networks. Serving telecom carriers and other business and government customers, the new Alcatel-Lucent organization is made up of five business units: wireline, wireless, convergence, enterprise, and services. Alcatel-Lucent's key customers include Verizon, AT&T (formerly SBC Communications), BellSouth, and China Telecom.
