Hoping to forge an alliance between consumers and retailers, Alliance Data Systems performs such private-label credit card operations as credit and transaction services and marketing, serving more than 800 clients, including retailers, supermarkets, oil companies, utilities, and financial services companies. Activities include loyalty programs, billing and payment processing, point-of-sale services, risk management, and database marketing. Alliance Data Systems has about a dozen facilities in the US and Canada. Private equity giant The Blackstone Group agreed to buy the company for more than $6 billion, but Alliance Data Systems has terminated the deal.
