AUTONATION INC Profile

AutoNation wants to instill patriotic fervor in the fickle car-buying public. The brainchild of entrepreneur and ex-chairman Wayne Huizenga (Waste Management, Blockbuster Video), AutoNation is the largest car dealer in the US (ahead of Penske Automotive Group and Group 1 Automotive). Formerly known as Republic Industries, the firm owns about 320 new vehicle franchises in some 15 states and online sales through AutoNation.com and individual dealer Web sites. AutoNation operates under different brands (including Mike Shad in Jacksonville, Florida and Go in Denver) in local markets. In addition to auto sales, AutoNation provides maintenance and repair services, sells auto parts, and finances and insures vehicles.
