Broadcom harbors broad ambitions for its chips' impact on broadband communications: it wants them to drive every part of the high-speed networks of the future. The core applications for its integrated circuits (ICs) are digital set-top boxes, cable modems, servers, and local-area and home networking gear. Broadcom also makes ICs for carrier access, DSL, and wireless communications equipment, including mobile phones. Customers include 3Com, Apple, Cisco, Dell, Hewlett-Packard, IBM, and Motorola (about 11% of sales). The Asia/Pacific region contributes around 80% of Broadcom's sales.
