NovaGold Resources explores and develops gold and copper mineral properties in Alaska and Canada. Its main projects include the Ambler (in partnership with Rio Tinto), Donlin Creek (with partner Barrick Gold), and Nome operations in Alaska. In British Columbia, NovaGold Resources owns half of the Galore Creek gold and copper project; Teck Cominco has the other half. None of its mining operations are in production, though the company does earn revenue from sand-and-gravel production (at its Nome property) and from the sale of land. Barrick offered to buy NovaGold in 2006 for $1.7 billion but failed in its attempt to take over the company.
