PHH CORP Profile

Two staples of modern life -- cars and houses -- come together at PHH. Its operations consist of PHH Vehicle Management Services (fleet management) and PHH Mortgage (mortgage loans). Fleet management accounts for more than two-thirds of sales. PHH Corporation was formed in 2005 when Cendant spun off its mortgage and fleet management businesses to focus on other operations. (In 2006 Cendant spun off its hotel and real estate businesses, sold its travel operations, and changed its name to Avis Budget Group to reflect its remaining business, car rental.) In 2007 PHH agreed to be acquired by General Electric and private equity firm Blackstone Group, but the deal fell apart in early 2008.
