The fund invests at least 80% of net assets plus any borrowings for investment purposes in fixed income securities that the US government, its agent or instrumentalities issue or guarantee, and certain money market instruments and non-convertible fixed income securities of other issuers. The fund has no minimum or maximum maturity for the securities it may purchase. The fund may invest up to 20% of its assets in securities with a minimum credit rating from Moody's or Standard & Poor's of Baa or BBB.
