The investment seeks to provide a high level of current income, consistent with the preservation of capital.
The fund invests at least 80% of assets plus any borrowings for investment purposes in fixed income securities that the US government, its agents or instrumentalities issue or guarantee, certain money market instruments and non-convertible fixed income securities of other issuers. The dollar-weighted average maturity of the fund is normally less than three years and will not exceed five years. There is no limit on the maturities of individual securities.
