The fund invests primarily in investment grade debt securities and U.S. government obligations. It also invests in securities of foreign issuers. Under normal circumstances the fund invests at least 80% of net assets in bonds and related investments. The fund considers securities rated at least BBB by Standard & Poor's or Fitch or Baa by Moody's to be investment grade securities. Its dollar-weighted average effective maturity generally is between five and fifteen years under normal circumstances.
