The fund invests in US government bonds and other bonds of varying maturities, but normally limits portfolio "duration" within two years (plus or minus) of the effective duration of the fund's benchmark index. It normally invests at least 80% of net assets in government fixed income securities. The fund may invest in mortgage-backed securities issued or guaranteed by US government agencies and instrumentalities which are backed by the full faith and credit of the United States.
